We evaluate Tencent's QQ Browser, a popular mobile browser in China with hundreds of millions of usersincluding 16 million overseas, with respect to the threat model of a man-in-the-middle attacker with state actor capabilities. This is motivated by information in the Snowden revelations suggesting that another Chinese mobile browser, UC Browser, was being used to track users by Western nation-state adversaries.Among the many issues we found in QQ Browser that are presented in this paper, the use of "textbook RSA"that is, RSA implemented as shown in textbooks, with no padding-is particularly interesting because it affords us the opportunity to contextualize existing research in breaking textbook RSA. We also present a novel attack on QQ Browser's use of textbook RSA that is distinguished from previous research by its simplicity. We emphasize that although QQ Browser's cryptography and our attacks on it are very simple, the impact is serious. Thus, research into how to break very poor cryptography (such as textbook RSA) has both pedagogical value and real-world impact.

Studies of neutrino mixing and oscillations, solar neutrinos as background in dark matter searches involving electron detection, detection of sterile neutrino warm dark matter, and of possible electromagnetic properties of neutrinos, have generated interest in the low energy O(10 keV) scattering of electron neutrinos and antineutrinos by atomic electrons where the binding of the atomic electron cannot be ignored. Of particular interest is the ionization of atoms by neutrinos and antineutrinos. Most existing calculations are based upon modifications of the free electron differential cross section which destroy the relationship between the neutrino helicities and the orbital and spin angular momenta of the atomic electrons. The present calculations maintain the full collision dynamics by formulating the scattering in configuration space using the bound interaction picture, rather than the usual formulation in the interaction picture in momentum space as appropriate to scattering by free electrons. Energy spectra of ionization electrons produced by scattering of neutrinos and antineutrinos with energies of 5, 10, 20, and 30 keV by hydrogen, helium and neon have been calculated using Dirac central field eigenfunctions, and are presented as ratios to the spectra for scattering by free electrons. Binding effects increase strongly with atomic number, are largest for low neutrino energy and, for each neutrino energy, greatest at the high electron energy end of the spectrum. The most extreme effects of binding are for 5 keV scattering by Ne where the ratios are less than 0.1. The energy spectra have been calculated for both a Coulombic final electron state and a free final electron state. The results indicate that the binding effects from the continuum state of the final electron are significant and can be comparable to those arising from the bound initial electron state.

Sri Lankan history is fraught with numerous attempts of invasion and colonization from time immemorial. The European occupation being the major one, it lasted for 443 years until 1948. The post-independence period revealed the strong influence of colonization on the socio-economic, religious, and cultural mindset of the colonized. The policy of ‘divide and rule’ implemented by the Europeans paved the way for political conflicts among ethnic groups. The youth of both the Sinhala and Tamil ethnic factions of the population opposed the political decisions of the then Sri Lankan governments at different periods of time and this led to the Sinhala youth insurrection and the 30-year liberation war by Tamil separatist guerillas. Ondaatje in Anil’s Ghost and Amarasekara in Asathya Kathawak have recognized these conflicts and their outcome through literature. The protagonists of these novels are eager to discover the truth and the perpetrators of violence during the uprisings in order to mete out justice to the memory of the victims. The different narrative techniques used, help in understanding the storyline through which the truth concerning the criminal occurrences of the era are uncovered.
