“…The use of chemical activators derived from MnO has been reported by several researchers 12,16,19 . This metal oxide participates in H 2 O 2 catalysis, promoting its degradation and producing other ROS 20,21,24,25 . The reaction mechanism of MnO with H 2 O 2 might occur through the process of manganese reduction by its own reactive molecule 22 : MnO 2 + H 2 O 2 → MnO (or Mn 2 O 3 ) + H 2 O.…”

“…In addition, the application of bleaching agents for 45 min, as performed in the present investigation, allows comparing our results with those data obtained from studies in which different strategies of H 2 O 2 degradation were tested using chemical catalytic agents associated or not to photocatalysis approach. 11,12,24,25,29 Even considering the methodological limitations of this in vitro study and that results from laboratory investigations should not be directly extrapolated to clinical situations, 5,35 the use of PCP containing MnO as a chemical catalyst of H 2 O 2 seems to be a promising strategy to reduce the cytotoxicity of professional dental bleaching therapies without harming the excellent esthetic results already reached with this modality of esthetic treatment. However, clinical trial are still needed to assess the safety of use and EE of associating PCP with bleaching gels commonly employed in dental offices.…”
