Survival and growth rates of mangroves planted in vertical and horizontal aquaponic systems in North Jakarta, Indonesia. Biodiversitas 23: 687-694. Mangrove rehabilitation is aimed to reverse mangrove deforestation and degradation. Various efforts have been conducted to rehabilitate the degraded mangroves, yet problems arise when planting mangroves in the high and permanently water-logged areas in coastline. The aquaponic system is a mangrove planting method introduced to reduce the impact of permanent and high water inundation. This research aims to analyze the survival rate of mangroves planted using vertical and horizontal aquaponic systems in Jakarta's north coast and investigate the correlation between physico-chemical environmental parameters and the survival and growth rates of the planted mangroves. The results showed that the survival rate of mangroves planted in the vertical aquaponic system reached 55.4-96.9%. On the other hand, the highest survival rate in the horizontal aquaponic system was obtained in mangrove planting at 80-100 cm from the bottom with survived plants between 70-90%. The height growth rate of mangroves planted in the aquaponic system was between 0.95-2.33 cm/month. The correlation analysis showed that soil salinity, soil pH and water salinity had a high correlation to support living trees of mangrove seedlings. Rhizophora apiculata, Rhizophora mucronata, and Rhizophora stylosa had highest survival and adaptation in this planting system.

The planning of wetland essential ecosystem area (EEA) conservation and preservation activities is important to support ecosystem stability, including the mangrove ecosystem. These activities should consider the ecological, economic, and social aspects. This study aimed to analyze the indicator of the mangrove ecosystem to support the planning program of EEA conservation in Muara Kali Ijo, Pantai Ayah, Kebumen. The research method used the mapping and planning analysis of the EEA conservation program using the indicator of mangrove density, mangrove diversity, and environmental indicators. The results showed that mangrove density in Muara Kali Ijo was 1,500-4,300 trees/ha (moderate to very dense) and was dominated by Rhizophora mucronata and Rhizophora styllosa. The potential of total dissolved solids, water salinity, potential hydrogen, dissolved oxygen, biological oxygen demand, and nitrate had a good condition to support the mangrove’s life and growth. The ecosystem essential planning also had activity to conserve and preserve the Crocodylus porosus. The planning of ecosystem essential was developed in 18.5 ha, divided into five zones: mangrove preservation area of 5.90 ha, mangrove utilization area of 6.40 ha, mangrove arboretum of 4.40 ha, mangrove rehabilitation area of 1.30 ha, and specific utilization area of 0.5 ha. The wetland EEA in Muara Kali Ijo has important value in preserving the area from coastal disaster and increasing economic value with tourism and other activities. Environmental problems need to be solved by students' HOTS abilities. This research aimed to develop environmental learning student's worksheet of air pollution (eswopol) based on Higher Order Thinking Skills Assessment based on Environmental Problems (HOTS-AEP). The research method used research and development that modified from Borg and Gall model. The study was conducted in December 2019 until January 2020. The research instrument used the interview transcript and validation questionnaire. The research data obtained in the form of an average score of validation results. The data analysis technique used is descriptive. The results showed that the environmental learning student's worksheet of air pollution (eswopol) based on HOTS-AEP was declared valid with an average validation score of 3.55 (very valid category). The conclusion of this research is eswopol based on HOTS-AEP is appropriate for use in a learning environment.Permasalahan lingkungan perlu dipecahkan dengan kemampuan HOTS siswa. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan environmental learning student's worksheet of air pollution (eswopol) berbasis Higher Order Thinking Skills Assessment based on Environmental Problem (HOTS-AEP). Metode penelitian yang digunakan, yaitu penelitian dan pengembangan yang mengadaptasi model Borg and Gall. Penelitian dilaksanakan Desember 2019 s.d Januari 2020. Instrumen penelitian yang digunakan, yaitu transkrip wawancara dan angket validasi. Data penelitian yang diperoleh berupa skor rata-rata hasil validasi. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan berupa deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa environmental learning student's worksheet of air pollution (eswopol) berbasis HOTS-AEP dinyatakan valid dengan skor rata-rata validasi 3.55 (kategori sangat valid). Simpulan penelitian ini yaitu eswopol berbasis HOTS-AEP layak digunakan dalam pembelajaran lingkungan.
