Management of non-syndromic double tooth affecting permanent maxillary central incisors: a systematic review

Abstract: To assess management of non-syndromic double tooth affecting permanent maxillary central incisors, we performed a systematic review and also present 2 case reports. We searched MEDLINE via PubMed and the reference lists of included reports. Eligible studies were any type of clinical studies describing the management of non-syndromic double tooth affecting the crown of a permanent maxillary central incisor. “…Le traitement endodontique est indiqué en cas de pathologie endodontique préexistante ou lors d'une exposition pulpaire inévitable au cours des coronoplasties, la conservation de la vitalité pulpaire voir la réalisation de coiffage quand les conditions le permettent, est privilégiée [55]. L'extraction est indiquée devant des morphologies aberrantes ou des échecs répétitifs du traitement endodontiques, avec un traitement de substitution (implant ou bridge) ou dans des cas orthodontiques avec extractions des prémolaires où on optera pour l'avulsion bilatérale des incisives et fermeture d'espace [28] , voir même dans des cas avec dents surnuméraires (la dent surnuméraire a une morphologie normale) où on procédera à l'autotransplantation de celle-ci dans le site de la dent double [8,49] . Le suivi est un maillon indispensable du succès de l'attitude thérapeutique et tous les articles inclus ont rempli ce critère avec un suivi au moins de 6 mois après traitement afin de vérifier la stabilité des résultats, selon la revue réalisée, nous avons pu souligner certaines attitudes relatives à chaque type de dent double, tandis que d'autres attitudes peuvent être similaires et ne dépendent pas uniquement de la morphologie.…”

A recent systematic review of 72 cases 6 showed that most of these cases required interdisciplinary management. Half of the cases were subjected to restorative treatment following surgical hemisectioning that did not always include removal of the sectioned fragment.…”
