Management of Greenhouse Cucumber Production under Arid Environments: A Review

Abstract: G REENHOUSE cucumber production is considered an important tool beside open field production. The production of greenhouse cucumber in developing countries particularlyinarid environments mightachieve as low cost structures and almost without air conditions. These conditions have increased the constrains of cucumber production to be include more stresses beside salinity, drought and heat stress. These stresses mainly include biotic stress and abiotic stresses, which cause a high loss in the cucumber productivi… Show more

“…In resource-limited arid regions, preference is given to low-tech protected structures. This prompts the question of which is the most feasible [11] for successful cultivation in arid environments. Additionally, grafting is used on a large scale to increase vegetable productivity under challenging growth environments [12].…”

“…As previously mentioned, the effect of the greenhouse microclimatic condition on greenhouse crops, such as tomatoes and cucumbers, has been intensively studied in recent decades [51][52][53][54][55] and will not be reviewed in detail here. However, as warm-season plants are sensitive to diurnal temperature variations, greenhouse cultivation in arid and semiarid regions will involve additional risks and production costs due to wide night and day air temperature differences.…”

“…The Central Organization of Statistics in the Iraqi Ministry of Agriculture confirmed that the cultivated area of the cucumber in Iraq was 95,281 acres on 2020, with a productivity of 242,614 tons [9]. [10] mentioned that the greenhouse cultivated area of the cucumber at the global level is constantly increasing due to its importance of economic returns. Wither it is cultivated using open or in greenhouses, cucumber could be infected with various pathogenic microbes that affect the quantity and quality of crops production.…”
