Malignant Mesenchymoma of the Spermatic Cord

Abstract: Sarcomas of the spermatic cord are rare, with only approximately 200 such tumors reported in the literature. Of those cases only 3 fit the definition of malignant mesenchymoma: a mesenchymal tumor with 2 or more malignant elements other than fibrosarcoma. We report the fourth such case treated by local excision alone. The patient was free of disease 6 years after treatment.

“…The most common benign tumors of the spermatic cord are lipoma, fibroma, wolffian body tumors, and lymphangioma -in decreasing order of frequency [8]. The incidences of malignancies affecting intrascrotal structures are relatively high: 25% of the epididymal neoplasms, excluding cord lipomas, 56% of the cord tumors, and 59% of the scrotal tunic neoplasms [8], Mixed mesenchymal tumors in the sper matic cord have, however, rarely been reported [2,3], Because preoperative examinations usually failed to es tablish a reliable diagnosis, most cases underwent surgi cal exploration and radical excision as in the present case. We diagnosed the present case histologically as a benign tumor.…”

“…Possi ble mesenchymal elements include smooth muscle, striated muscle, blood vessels, fat, bone, cartilage, and myxomatous tissues. Only a few cases of benign or malignant mixed mesenchymal tumors of the spermatic cord have been described [2,3]. We now report a case of mixed mesenchymal tumor of the spermatic cord com posed of spindle cells and an osseous element.…”

“…Primary osteosarcoma of paratesticular soft tissue is a rare tumor, with few reports in the literature (1)(2)(3). To the best of our knowledge, only one case (4) arising directly from paratesticular soft tissue has been reported.…”
