Making psychology inclusive: A history of education and training for diversity in American psychology.

Abstract: Multiculturalism as a desideratum in U.S. psychology is a relatively recent phenomenon. Viewed in historical perspective, it owes its appearance to influences at the global, national, and community levels. In this chapter, we offer a broad sketch of these influences and then focus on a history of efforts to make U.S. psychology more inclusive or multicultural through the education and training of psychologists (see also Volume 1, Chapter 1, this handbook).
