Nowadays, the digital learning environment has revolutionized the vision of distance learning course delivery and drastically transformed the online educational system. The emergence of MOOCs (Massive Open Online courses) has exposed web technology used in education in a more advanced revolution ushering a new generation of learning environments. The digital learning environment is expected to augment the real world conventional education setting. The educational pedagogy are tailored with the standard practice which has been noticed to increase student success in MOOCs and provide a revolutionary way of self-regulated learning. However, there are still unresolved questions relating to the understanding of learning analytics data and how this could be implemented in educational contexts to support individual learning. One of the major issue in MOOCs is the consistent high dropout rate which over time has seen courses recorded less than 20% completion rate. This paper explores learning analytics from different perspectives in a MOOC context. Firstly, we review existing literature relating to learning analytics in MOOCs, bringing together findings and analyses from several courses. We explore meta-analysis of the basic factors that correlate to learning analytics and the significant in improving education. Secondly, using themes emerging from the previous study, we propose a preliminary model consisting of four factors of learning analytics. Finally, we provide a framework of learning analytics based on the following dimensions: descriptive, diagnostic, predictive and prescriptive, suggesting how the factors could be applied in a MOOC context. Our exploratory framework indicates the need for engaging learners and providing the understanding of how to support and help participants at risk of dropping out of the course.

Система освіти сьогодні вирішує важливе завдання — підготовку молодих людей до активної професійної діяльності в різних галузях. Професійна освіта потребує оновлення та поповнення змісту навчального процесу новими стандартами, сучасними технологіями, новітніми уявленнями про світ і місце людини в ньому. На сьогодні однією з найпопулярніших стратегій ігрового навчання стала платформа Kahoot. Вона може використовуватися для перевірки та оцінки знань студентів та в якості відходу від традиційної форми занять. Нова платформа під назвою Kahoot була створена у 2012 р. викладачами та студентами Норвезького університету. У вересні 2013 р. Kahoot був заснований для загального користування на базі лекційної вікторини. У навчальному процесі платформа Kahoot стала зручним інструментом для створення тестів, які можна використовувати з метою проведення поточного контролю знань студентів, самостійногонавчання та самоконтролю, підготовки до модулів та іспитів. Колектив молодих вчених Харківського Політеху створив перший в історії нашої країни «міський Kahoot чемпіонат з природничих наук» для учнів 10–11 класів. Протягом двох останніх років створено низку науково-популярних ігор — від технологій ІТ, фізики, хімії до іноземних мов та бізнесу. Ці ігри використовуються не лише при дистанційній формі навчання зі студентами, але й у роботі центральної приймальної комісії Національного технічного університету «ХПІ» з метою ознайомлення випускників та учнів шкіл Харківщини з нашим університетом — навчально-науковими інститутами, кафедрами та спеціальностями. Так сервіс Kahoot застосовується з метою профорієнтації школярів і студентів. Молоді науковці та викладачі постійно створюють захоплюючі вікторини Kahoot для корисного проведення канікул, допомагають школярам зануритись у світ науки, технологій та інновацій.

Improving Learning Achievement in Science Education for Elementary School Students via Blended Learning

Blended learning—which combines online learning with traditional face-to-face classroom instruction—is currently held in high regard. In elementary schools, science and technology education aims to help children use technology tools and to learn how disciplines such as math and science are relevant to engineering. In this study, the authors examined what type of learning profile contributes to higher achievement in science and technology in a blended learning environment. The participants consisted of 106 elementary school students (grades three to six) from two different schools. The authors adapted the Online Technologies Self-Efficacy Scale (OTSES) and the Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire (MSLQ) to measure students' computer skills and learning motivation, respectively, and to understand how the blended learning environment affected their learning achievement. The results were as follows: 1) Computer skills significantly improved for all students except sixth-graders. 2) The blended learning environment had no significant effect on learning motivation. 3) In grades four and five, students in the experimental group improved more in learning achievement than students in the control group, as reflected by their higher MSLQ and OTSES scores.
