“…The activities of various hippocampal antioxidants like CAT, SOD, and GPx were considerably decreased with an increase in lipid peroxidation (MDA) were noted in CMS‐subjected rats. As mentioned before, chronic exposure of stress (CMS model) could leads to degeneration of neurons, hippocampus (atrophy‐increase lipid peroxidation) due to excessive activation of phagocytic cells (macrophages) which trigger excessive free radical generation (Cheng et al, ; Kumar & Mondal ) and hence the activities of antioxidant were decreased with increased MDA level. Whereas, rats injected with SB and IMP could significantly reverse the antioxidant activity and lipid peroxidation product to near normalcy because of its potent‐free radical scavenging (antioxidant) and anti‐lipid peroxidation activities (Jiang et at., ).…”

“…Ample amount of studies had reported that chronic psychological or physical stress could result in hyperactivity of HPA axis (HPA dysfunction) and eventually end up in the pathogenesis of depression which is indicated by hypersecretion of corticosteroid hormones like ACTH and CORT (Cheng, Dong, Yi, Geng, & Liu, ; Manthey et al, ). Hence, the levels of serum ACTH and CORT were evaluated to assess the effect of SB on the HPA axis.…”

“…Consequently, inhibition of neuroinflammation is crucial for the treatment of AD. MN has been reported to inhibit neuroinflammation in mice exhibiting depressive-like behaviors [45]. To confirm the impacts of MN on M1/M2 microglia polarization, we measured the levels of specific proinflammatory cytokines and anti-inflammatory mediators in the brains of TgCRND8 mice.…”
