Magnetothermal cooling with a phase separated manganite

Abstract: We show that temperature of a current (I = 20 mA) carrying manganite (Nd 0.5 Ca 0.5 Mn 0.93 Ni 0.07 O 3 ) in presence of a magnetic field (H) decreases abruptly as much as ΔT = 45 K (7 K) accompanied by a step like decrease in magnetoresistance at a critical value of H when the base temperature is 40 K (100 K). The magnitude of ΔT and the position of magnetoresistance step decrease towards lower H with decreasing amplitude of the current. We discuss possible origins of the current and magnetic-field driven tem… Show more

“…Rebello et al [ 92 ] researched polycrystalline La 0.7− x Pr x Ca 0.3 MnO 3 samples for several compositions but focused their study on x = 0.35. The authors examined magnetic entropy change by DSC (based on a model developed by Marcos et al, [ 93 ] ) working in a magnetic environment and found it to be 6.73 J kg −1 K −1 .…”
