“…Composites prepared with Fe 3 O 4 had the highest adsorption of CBZ for both the biochar and the activated carbon, and Fe 3 O 4 was selected to prepare the magnetic adsorbents in the following study. Another benefit to use Fe 3 O 4 composites is that Fe 3 O 4 has relatively high magnetism (Fe ∼ 215 emu/g, Fe 3 O 4 ∼ 80 emu/g and α-Fe 2 O 3 < 0.2 emu/g) [28,29], so magnetic biochar/Fe 3 O 4 and AC/Fe 3 O 4 can be easily separated from solution.…”

“…However, peaks labeled with red circles at 24.15˚, 33.25˚, 41.03˚, and 49.50˚, corresponding to (012), (104), (113), and (024) plane of hematite (JCPDS No. 79‐1741), were also observed, demonstrating the existence of α‐Fe 2 O 3 (Xu et al ). The Fe 2 O 3 phase might arise from the partial oxidation of the Fe 3 O 4 phase during the drying and calcination process.…”

“…Our previous researching works have demonstrated that the mixture solvent of EG and water in volume ratio of 30:10 creates a equilibrium condition for the crystallization of hematite α‐Fe 2 O 3 . Thus, in the current experiments the formed hematite α‐Fe 2 O 3 crystals grow to nanodisks closed with the basal facets of (0001) and side facets of {11‐20}, well reflecting the intrinsic symmetry of the lattice . On the other hand, the hydrothermal reaction is performed in an isolated system, in which the precursors involved for the synthesis of the hematite α‐Fe 2 O 3 are finite.…”

“…It has been previously demonstrated that the obtained α‐Fe 2 O 3 nanodisks are closed by {11‐20} side planes and (0001) basal planes . As for the larger α‐Fe 2 O 3 nanodisks with 600 nm in diameter and 230 nm in thickness, respectively, the area fractions of (0001) basal planes and {11‐20} side planes are 34.3% and 65.7%, respectively.…”
