“…The presence of two bundles within the cranial cruciate ligament was previously considered as one specie characteristic in MRI of ovine stifle (Vandeweerd et al, 2013). The transverse inter-meniscal ligament was not identified in the dissection of 32 sheep stifles (80%) (Vandeweerd et al, 2013). In all marsh deer stifles, this ligament was not visible in either imaging studies or by gross macroscopy.…”

“…Furthermore, in the present study, two distinct bundles (caudolateral and craniomedial) of the cranial cruciate ligament were identifiable by MRI. The presence of two bundles within the cranial cruciate ligament was previously considered as one specie characteristic in MRI of ovine stifle (Vandeweerd et al, 2013). The transverse inter-meniscal ligament was not identified in the dissection of 32 sheep stifles (80%) (Vandeweerd et al, 2013).…”

“…One other pair of fresh limbs ( n = 2) was used to visualize synovial compartments. Twenty millilitres of water was injected into the femoro‐tibial joint with a paraligamentous technique (Vandeweerd et al, ). A 21 G 38 mm (11⁄2 in.)…”

“…The anatomy of the ovine stifle has been described using radiography (Allen et al, ), computed tomography (Vandeweerd et al, ) and magnetic resonance imaging (Vandeweerd et al, ). Ultrasonography (US) is another useful imaging modality that is time‐ and cost‐effective, non‐invasive and dynamic (Alves, Girish, Kalume Brigido, & Jacobson, ; Bianchi, Martinoli, Bianchi‐Zamorani, & Valle, ).…”
