Magnetic Properties and Antibacterial Activity of Tetranuclear Copper Complexes Bridged by Oxo Group

Abstract: A series of three tetranuclear Cu(II) complexes of general formula [Cu 4 OCl 6 L 4 ], where L is a Lewis Base ligand has been characterized through magnetic measurements and determination of antimicrobial activities. This study include the following species [Cu 4 OCl 6)Cl(PhIm) 3 ](HPhIm)•H 2 O (1) where PhIm= 4-phenylimidazole, [(Cu 4 OCl 6)(PyNO) 4 ]• 1 / 5 (H 2 O) (2) where PyNO= Pyridine-N-oxide and [(Cu 4 OCl 6)(MeIm) 4 ]•3(CH 3 OH) (3) where MeIm = 2-methylimidazole. The polynuclear cluster in the comple… Show more

“…The corresponding bond distances for each bromide and its Cu II atom differ from each subunit; the lengths range from 2.4683(9) Å for Cu(1)\Br(3) to 2.5615(9) for Cu(2)\Br(4) ( Table 2B). Few isostructural complexes to 5a have been reported before [28,29] and they belong to a particular set of systems namely the [Cu 4 X 6 OL 4 ] complexes, where L denotes any Lewis base ligand and X is an halogen such as chloride or bromide.…”

“…[7][8][9][10][11][12] There are numerous copper(II) compounds that present biological activity as antiinflammatory, anticonvulsive, antifungal, antibacterial, and antimicrobial agents. [13][14][15][16][17][18] An example is the trans-bis(acetate)bis(imidazole)copper(II) complex, which exhibits the strongest antitumor activity against the mouse melanoma cancer cell line B16. 19 Cobalt(II) complexes with N6-substituted adenine derivatives have also been suggested as efficient drugs against human malignant melanoma tumour (G361) osteogenic sarcoma (HOS).…”
