MAG Welding Process with Micro-Jet Cooling as the Effective Method for Manufacturing Joints for S700MC Steel

Abstract: Advanced high-strength steel (AHSS) steels are relatively not very well weldable because of the dominant martensitic structure with coarse ferrite and bainite. The utmost difficulty in welding these steels is their tendency to crack both in the heat affected zone (HAZ) and in weld. The significant disadvantage is that the strength of the welded joint is much lower in comparison to base material. Adopting the new technology regarding micro-jet cooling (MJC) after welding with micro-jet cooling could be the way … Show more

“…They stated that properties of S700MC welded joint are strongly influenced by welding parameters. Węgrzyn et al [44] proved that increased cooling rate does not significantly decrease the properties of S700MC welded joints. It suggests that investigated steel could be tested in water environment in high-cooling rate conditions.…”

“…Moreover, in the case of the last connection methods, the sub-components used for the joining have certificates, while the quality of the first one depends on the qualifications of the welding group. This problem is considered by a lot of research teams [ 9 , 14 ], which examined parameters of the joining technique or modified ones applying additional sub-elements such as micro-jet cooling device [ 15 , 16 ] or hybrid welding process [ 17 , 18 ]. These efforts are transferred for various kinds of high-strength steel focusing on the S960MC [ 15 , 17 , 18 ], which is an attractive kind of metal because it is produced in a lot of forms such as sheets, tubes and plates [ 1 , 6 ].…”

“…XPF800 st weld and BM have a ductile fracture, with multiple dimples and rip ridges. Wegrzyn et al [137] studied the MAG welding process coupled with micro-jet co ing on S700MC steel. Such joints were reported for the first time and the authors carefu investigated the mechanical properties.…”
