Macromineral and trace element supply in sheep and goats in Austria

Abstract: ABSTRACT:The aim of this study was to determine the supply of 25 different macrominerals (calcium, magnesium, potassium) and trace elements (aluminium, arsenic, barium, boron, cadmium, cobalt, copper, iron, lithium, lead, manganese, molybdenum, nickel, selenium, silicon, strontium, sulphur, thallium, tin, titanium, uranium, zinc), and to ascertain the presence of any over-or undersupplies. As a second objective, we undertook a comparison of our results with existing reference values from selected literature a… Show more

“…Some authors have explained that meat from kids reared with natural milk has lower a * and greater h ab values because the natural milk of goats is not rich in Fe (Sañudo et al, ). Although grazing goats had normal levels of Se and Fe in plasma (Schweinzer et al, ), a higher level of these elements was found in goat kids that were fed with a milk replacer (Wittek, ). However, Lanza et al () did not find differences in the h ab and a * values of suckling lamb meat even though the iron content of the milk replacer was greater than that of natural milk (Rodríguez et al, ).…”

“…The average concentrations of macroelements and trace elements in the blood of ewes during lactation were mostly within the limits of reference values (Puls 1994;Herdt and Hoff 2011;Schweinzer et al 2017), except for the P concentration which was higher, and Fe which was lower compared to reference values. Assessment of the trace element status in the animal is much more difficult.…”

“…All data were analysed with the statistical software SAS v9.4 ® (SAS Institute Inc., Cary, NC, USA). Reference values for blood macrominerals and trace elements from the laboratory were compared with selected reference values (Puls 1994;Underwood and Suttle 1999;Herdt and Hoff 2011;Schweinzer et al 2017).…”

“…Daily average Zn intake by sheep in dry season, late rainy season and early rainy season were 50.96, 52.44 and 44.84 µg, respectively. Through the circulation system, Zn were uptake by several tissue for biological and biochemistry process, among other for component and cofactor several enzyme, tissue protein synthesis and bone formation which reflected in ADBWG (Soetan et al, 2010;Radwinska and Zarczynska, 2014;Schweinzer et al, 2017).…”
