Macrocyclic oxamides as ionophores for lead‐selective membrane electrodes

Abstract: A set of macrocyclic oxamides intended to be used as potential ionophores for lead ions in solvent polymeric membrane electrodes was investigated. The influence of the structure of ligands (number and distribution of oxygen donor atoms and ring size) on the selectivity was examined. Pronounced preference of lead over other divalent and some monovalent cations was observed for the 21membered-ring oxadiamides (ionophores 1 and 7). These electrodes exhibited a linear response within the activity range of *-lo-' '… Show more

“…The characteristic of the presented electrode is comparable with others containing aza-substituted crown ethers. 33,34 A direct comparison is not possible because different methods for determining the selectivity coefficients have been used. Nevertheless, it could be stated that electrodes with membranes containing thia-or aza-substituted crown ethers with benzo rings are characterized by good selectivity for Pb 2+ ions over other examined doubly charged cations.…”

“…A number of macrocyclic diamides prepared from salicylaldehyde derivatives and the appropriate diamino compounds have been shown to have wide applications in selective metal cation extraction (22)(23)(24)(25). The use of a benzosubstituted macrocyclic diamide as ion carrier in construction of a poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC)-based Pb 2ϩ ion-selective electrode has also been reported (26). In recent years, we have reported on a number of new PVC-based ion-selective electrodes for some transition and heavy metal ions such as Pb 2ϩ (27)(28)(29)(30)(31), Hg 2ϩ (32,33), Zn 2ϩ (34), and Ag ϩ (35) using some neutral cyclic and acyclic ligands as suitable ionophores.…”

“…Thus, a number of macrocyclic diamides, prepared from salicylaldehyde derivatives and some appropriate diamino compounds, has been shown to possess wide applications in selective metal ion extraction [13 ± 16] and in preparation of ISEs for Li [17] and Pb 2 ions [18]. [24].…”
