M1 resonances in unstable magic nuclei

Abstract: Within a microscopic approach which takes into account RPA configurations, the single-particle continuum and more complex 1p1h ⊗ phonon configurations isoscalar and isovector M1 excitations for the unstable nuclei 56,78 Ni and 100,132 Sn are calculated. For comparison, the experimentally known M1 excitations in 40 Ca and 208 Pb have also been calculated. In the latter nuclei good agreement in the centroid energy, the total transition strength and the resonance width is obtained. With the same parameters we pre… Show more

“…The authors found that for the 48 Ca M1 resonance, B(M1) = 8.64 µ 2 N , 6.55 µ 2 N , and 6.12 µ 2 N when considering coupling of 1p1h to the continuum, to 2p2h and continuum with RPA-like ground-state correlations, and to the same with additional ground-state correlations, respectively [17,37]. The present result is in agreement with the calculations that include RPA-like correlations as well as coupling to the continuum and 2p2h.…”

“…Standard Skyrme Hartree-Fock and Woods-Saxon potential models, whose parameters are determined from the properties of nuclei near the valley of stability, predict the Og7/2 orbital to be less bound than the 1d5/2 orbital by 0.5 to 2.0 MeV [13]. Levels [14]. )…”

“…One of the few exceptions is Ref. [53]. Here magnetic dipole states were investigated and in this case, as expected, ground-state correlations beyond RPA give rise to a reduction of the strength.…”
