Lytic potential of Lysobacter capsici VKM B-2533T: bacteriolytic enzymes and outer membrane vesicles

Abstract: Recent recurrent outbreaks of bacterial resistance to antibiotics have shown the critical need to identify new lytic agents to combat them. The species Lysobacter capsici VKM B-2533T possesses a potent antimicrobial action against a number of bacteria, fungi and yeasts. Its activity can be due to the impact of bacteriolytic enzymes, antibiotics and peptides. This work isolated four homogeneous bacteriolytic enzymes and a mixture of two proteins, which also had a bacteriolytic activity. The isolates included pr… Show more

“…Strains of the genus Lysobacter are Gram-stain-negative, non-flagellated and flexing thin rods forming mucoid colonies [1]. Researchers are very interested in Lysobacter strains for their potential of producing mycolytic and bacteriolytic enzymes and antibiotic compounds [2–5]. Christensen and Cook first established the genus Lysobacter in 1978 [6] and, at the time of writing, this genus currently comprises 61 validly published and 12 invalidly published species (LSPN; www.bacterio.net) .…”

“…Data supporting a model for the specific sorting of vesicle components emerged (Horstman and Kuehn, 2000;Kato et al, 2002;Haurat et al, 2011Haurat et al, , 2015Schwechheimer and Kuehn, 2015). This contributed to the emergence of the theory of the formation of various vesicle groups (subpopulations) produced by one cell type (Olofsson et al, 2010;Rompikuntal et al, 2012;Kunsmann et al, 2015;Kudryakova et al, 2015;Afoshin et al, 2020). It should be noted that this theory enables understanding the ability of vesicles to perform various vital activities of the bacterial cell.…”

“… Lysobacter capsici VKM B-2533 T (=KCTC 22007 T = DSM 19286 T ) was isolated from the rhizosphere of pepper at the Gyeongsang National University (Jinju, South Korea) in 2008 ( 8 ). This strain was shown to have potent antifungal and antibacterial effects ( 7 9 ). An antifungal effect against Phytophthora infestans was observed in volatile organic compounds found in the strain ( 10 ).…”
