Luminescent Properties of (Ba,Sr)MgAl10O17:Mn,Eu Green Phosphor Prepared by Spray Pyrolysis under VUV Excitation

Abstract: BaMgAl 10 O 17 :Mn phosphor particles with a spherical shape and fine size of less than 1 µm were prepared by spray pyrolysis, and their luminescence properties under vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) excitation were investigated by changing the concentration of activators and the composition of host matrix. It was found that by substituting Sr for Ba sites in the conduction layers the excitation efficiency at wavelengths shorter than 160 nm is enhanced. As a result, the photoluminescence intensity of BaMgAl 10 O 17 :M… Show more

“…The sample obtained by Zn/Mg co-doped SrMgAl 10 O 17 phosphor showed better luminescence intensity, dispersion, and crystallite than SrMgAl 10 O 17 phosphor. The crystal structure model of SrMgAl 10 O 17 has been built, the band gap and crystal density were calculated. The SrMgAl 10 O 17 phosphor shows best luminescence properties when the ratio of Ca/Sr is 1:2 and the ratio of Zn/Mg is 1:3.…”

“…However, if the calcination temperature is too high (say 1,200°C), phase purity decreases. The phase purity of phosphors greatly affects the luminous efficiency; i.e., phosphor particles with higher phase purity have higher luminous efficiency [28]. Therefore, it is expected that 1,100°C is a better temperature for calcination.…”

“…Nowadays, spray pyrolysis technique and template method have been applied to prepare spherical phosphor. However, spray pyrolysis technique requires special equipment, and the products usually contain many hollow and broken spherical particles [6]. Template-directed synthesis is simple and economical for preparing high quality spherical phosphor.…”
