Luminescent graphene quantum dots fabricated by pulsed laser synthesis

Abstract: Graphene has been the subject of intense research in recent years due to its unique electrical, optical and mechanical properties. Furthermore, it is expected that quantum dots of graphene would make their way into devices due to their structure and composition which unify graphene and quantum dots properties. Graphene quantum dots (GQDs) are planar nano flakes with a few atomic layers thick and with a higher surface-to-volume ratio than spherical carbon dots (CDs) of the same size. We have developed a pulsed … Show more

“…47 The UV-Vis spectrum ( Figure 3B) displays an absorption at ~420 nm corresponding to the localized surface plasmon of silver, 48 and the absorption at ~270 nm is attributed to π−π* transition of aromatic sp 2 domains that is commonly observed in graphene and graphite nanostructures. 41 The XRD and UV-Vis data are in good agreement with the HR-TEM data obtained earlier. …”

“…The d-spacing of 0.145 nm corresponds to the (220) plane of silver, 44 and the d-spacing of 0.214 nm corresponds to the (110) plane of GQDs. 41,45 We used the XRD technique to identify the presence of silver and GQDs in the nanocomposites. The XRD pattern ( Figure 3A) of the Ag-GQDs powder shows the presence of nine peaks.…”

“…e size-selected GQDs and GQDs-Fe 3 O 4 NCs were synthesized via a bottom-up approach using pulsed laser-induced irradiation in solution as reported earlier by Habiba et al [14] with some modifications in experimental parameters. Specifically, the bottom-up method involves photolytic cracking of C 6 H 6 by laser irradiation in the illuminated region of solution.…”
