LUCLARICIN, A NEW LIGNAN FROM Phyllanthus acuminatus

Abstract: publicado na web em 25/07/2018The secondary metabolites of the aerial parts of Phyllanthus acuminatus Vahl (Phyllanthaceae) and the biological activity of one of them were characterized in this study. This chemical investigation led to isolation of two lignans, luclaricin (1), a new arylnaphtalenetypelignan, and justicidin B (2). The structures of isolated compounds were determined based on 1D and 2D-NMR, HRESIMS and IR. The cytotoxic activity of justicidin B was assessed against tumor cell lines (MCF-7, U251,… Show more

“…Several phyllanthosides and phyllanthostatins have been isolated from leaf extracts (Navarro et al, 2017) and root extracts (Pettit et al, 1981). These compounds possess powerful cytotoxic activity, as proven in murine P388 leukemic lymphocytic cells and B16 melanoma cells (Duarte et al, 2018). Pettit and collaborators evaluated phyllanthostatins 2 and 3 against PS leukemia, resulting in 43% (at 12 mg/kg and ED, 0.12 pg/mL) and 41% (at 80 mg/kg) life extensions, respectively.…”

“…The phytochemistry for several species of the Phyllanthus genus has been extensively studied (Qi et al, 2014), and many classes of organic compounds have been isolated and characterized (Gutiérrez, 2011;Jamal et al, 2008); over 500 compounds have been isolated from plant extracts (Duarte et al, 2018;Mao et al, 2016).…”

“…The range relative to structurally different forms of lignans and biological activities is broad [4,5]. The main commonly studied and reported compounds are secoisolariciresinol, lariciresinol, matairesinol, pinoresinol, medioresinol, and syringaresinol (shown in Figure 1), while, recently, the isolation and structure elucidation of new lignan compounds have been carried out [6,7,8] and the spectrum of their attributing properties has been widened [9,10,11].…”
