<title>Sensor web: a new instrument concept</title>

Abstract: The confluence of the rapidly expanding sensor, computation, and telecommunication industries has allowed for a new instrument concept: the Sensor Web. A Sensor Web consists of intra-communicating, spatially-distributed sensor pods that are deployed to monitor and explore environments. It is capable of automated reasoning for it can perform intelligent autonomous operations in uncertain environments, respond to changing environmental conditions, and carry out automated diagnosis and recovery. Sensor Webs could… Show more

“…Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) research, and more recently SensorWebs [13], have helped to contribute to the current fascination with the Internet of Things (IoT). The vision of an IoT, has precipitated an acceleration of development in sensor based data reporting techniques for ultra-constrained systems.…”

“…Hence a consistent set of encoding and interface standards as shown in Fig. 1 would have to be mandatorily developed for adapting and integrating sensor networks into an SDI application and OGC's Sensor Web Enablement (SWE) activity [26][27][28][29]. 2.2 Problems that will be addressed:…”
