Corrections to Phytotaxa 19: Linear sequence of lycophytes and ferns

Abstract: After the publication of our A linear sequence of extant families and genera of lycophytes and ferns (Christenhusz, Zhang & Schneider 2011), a couple of errors were brought to our attention:Platyzoma placed in Pteris (Pteridaceae), and correcting erroneous combinations made in Pteris of Gleichenia species. In the New Combinations section on page 22, we attempted to provide new combinations for the genus Platyzoma R.Br., which is embedded in Pteris L. (Schuettpelz & Pryer 2007, Lehtonen 2011. When doing so, we m… Show more

“…But Hemidictyum was supported as sister to Aspleniaceae and then formed a clade with Diplaziopsis + Homalosorus (Kuo et al, ; Lehtonen, ). Diplaziopsidaceae were subsequently revised to consist of only Diplaziopsis and Homalosorus (Christenhusz & Schneider, ; also see Rothfels et al, , ). D. cavaleriana and D. javanica grouped together, and this group of two species then formed a clade with H. pycnocarpos (Wei et al, ).…”

“…In this study, we provide a review of the studies concerning the eastern Asian and North American disjunct lineages of ferns and lycophytes, and compare their distribution patterns with those of seed plants (Wen, , , ; Manos & Donoghue, ; Milne & Abbott, ; Donoghue & Smith, ; Xiang et al, ; Wen et al, ). Family and genus concepts used in this paper follow the classification of Christenhusz et al () (also see Smith et al, ; Christenhusz & Schneider, ).…”

“…Smith et al [ 2 ] recognized 15 families in Polypodiales, while Christenhusz et al [ 29 ] included two newly described families and recognized 23 families in Polypodiales. In the following five years, four new families, Hemidictyaceae, Arthropteridaceae, Didymochlaenaceae, and Desmophlebiaceae, were described [ 30 , 31 , 32 , 33 ]. PPG I [ 3 ] accepted Hemidictyaceae, Didymochlaenaceae, and Desmophlebiaceae, but not Arthropteridaceae, and recognized 26 families in six suborders for Polypodiales.…”
