Objective Evaluation Of On-Eye Optical Quality Of Daily Disposable Silicone Hydrogel Contact Lens With Internal Wetting Agents

Abstract: PurposeTo investigate the on-eye optical quality of a daily disposable silicone hydrogel contact lens with internal wetting agent.Patients and methodsStudy subjects were daily disposable soft contact lens wearers (N=20) who were instructed to wear daily disposable hydrogel etafilcon A lens (without added wetting agent) or daily disposable silicone hydrogel senofilcon A lens (with an internal wetting agent), for a week. Subjects wore their respective lenses bilaterally and disposed of the pair of lenses daily. … Show more

“…As the front optical surface, PLTF is a constituent factor of the optical quality of the CLs. 22 In the current study, CLCVA at 12 h was lower in the nesofilcon A group. The significant decrease in vision levels in the nesofilcon A group may be associated with the more dramatically altered PLTF layer at the end of the day.…”

“…Tear coverage can be assessed by examining any PLTF deficiency on the contact lens surface through slit lamp observation by examining the quality of a specular reflection at high magnification, using interferometry observation techniques and with the use of grading scales [92,[95][96][97][98][99][100][101][102][103]. Another possibility is to evaluate the optical quality of the contact lens on the eye in terms of higher-order aberrations, since the surface wetting of a contact lens influences optical quality [104]. Finally, examining the loss of superficial optical quality by measuring the time elapsed between cessation of blinking and blur-out of a threshold letter on the acuity chart has been advanced as another measure of wettability [105].…”

“…13 Therefore, the sample size was calculated as 20, considering our experience with other SCL studies. 14,15 All statistical analyses were conducted using JMP Pro 16.0.0 (SAS Institute, Inc., Cary, NC) To compare the CDVA, wavefront data, and subjective vision ratings, a one-way analysis of variance with Tukey-Kramer correction (post hoc multiple comparisons) was used. The rotation between the two toric CLs was compared using a paired t test.…”
