Pisorisporiales, a new order of aquatic and terrestrial fungi for Achroceratosphaeria and Pisorisporium gen. nov. in the Sordariomycetes

Abstract: Four morphologically similar specimens of an unidentified perithecial ascomycete were collected on decaying wood submerged in fresh water. Phylogenetic analysis of DNA sequences from protein-coding and ribosomal nuclear loci supports the placement of the unidentified fungus together with Achroceratosphaeria in a strongly supported monophyletic clade. The four collections are described as two new species of the new genus Pisorisporium characterised by non-stromatic, black, immersed to superficial perithecial as… Show more

“…GenBank accession numbers for newly sequenced taxa and other homologous sequences of members of the Savoryellales and two new orders described in this study retrieved from GenBank are listed in Table 1 . For detailed investigation of phylogenetic relationships within the Sordariomycetes , sequences of the three loci nuc28S, nuc18S and rpb2 included in Réblová et al (2015) were downloaded from GenBank and combined with those generated during the present study.…”

“…Ranghoo et al (1999) in their phylogenetic study showed that Brunneosporella (as Ascobrunneispora) clusters with Annulatascus in Annulatascaceae. Réblová et al (2015) showed that Brunneosporella clusters in the family Papulosaceae in phylogenetic analyses. Krug (1977) revised the genus and introduced Cainiaceae to accommodate two species; the type species is Cainia graminis (Niessl) Arx & E. Müll.…”

This family is placed in the order Pirisporiales.…”

“…Torrentispora aquatica is most similar to Pisorisporium cymbiforme ( Pisorisporiales , Sordariomycetidae ) ( Réblová et al. 2015c ) in morphology and size of ascomata, which lie horizontally on the host, ascomatal wall, asci and morphology of long-fusoid to cymbiform, thin-walled ascospores, including the numerous guttules arranged in a chain within ascospores like peas in a pod.…”
