Mt 21-42: Development and Validation of an Automatic Device Proposed for the Endoscopic Diagnosis of Helicobacter pylori Infection and Atrophic Gastritis

Abstract: Background: Gastric juice may give important clinico-pathological information, but measurements in this medium are difficult. In this study we present and validate an innovative device (Mt 21-42) performing gastric juice analyses during endoscopy and proposed for the endoscopic diagnosis of Helicobacter pylori infection and hypo/achlorhydria. Methods: Analyses on both aqueous solutions (80 pH buffer + 120 ammonium chloride samples) and human gastric juice were carried out to assess the measuring performance of… Show more

“…Tucci et al developed and validated EndoFaster 21-42 (synonym: Mt 21-42; NISO Biomed S.r.l, Turin; Italy), a new promising device interposed between the endoscope and the suction system, which allows the analysis of gastric juice samples aspirated during upper endoscopy within 30-90 sec [ 126 , 127 ]. The diagnosis of H. pylori through Mt 21-42 is based on the ammonium concentration of gastric juice.…”

“…The diagnosis of H. pylori through Mt 21-42 is based on the ammonium concentration of gastric juice. Its fully automated nature, in combination with low maintenance costs, may make this device valuable and reliable for the detection of H. pylori infection [ 126 ].…”

“…The first prototype of EndoFaster – an innovative device formerly named Mt:21-42 – able to measure in real-time both ammonium ions (N 4 + ) and pH by using 5-10 mL gastric juice was introduced in 2005 [21,22]. In detail, the device is interposed between the endoscope and the suction system, and automatically performs real-time analysis utilising gastric juice aspirated at the beginning of endoscopy, and communicates the results during examination (Fig.…”
