The importance of Latin American space in the internationalization of Portuguese SMEs

“…Regarding institutional relations between the European Union and Latin America, reference should also be made to the "signing of the Interregional Agreement between the EU and Mercosur, with the aim of covering trade and economic issues, cooperation on integration and other areas of mutual interest, in order to strengthen relations between the two regions" (Santos, 2014: 24) 10 . However, and according to Diz and Luquini (2011), there has not been a great evolution in the integration of these two spaces, and over the past two decades there were some advances, but numerous obstacles to the process were also raised. “…Assinalamos em seguida os dois casos mais relevantes sob este ponto de vista. Em 1991, foi assinado o Tratado do Mercosul, originalmente por quatro países da América do Sul: Argentina, Brasil, Paraguai e Uruguai e posteriormente em 2012 aderiu também a Venezuela, surgindo com o objetivo de promover uma lógica de integração, visando um mercado ampliado e mais aprofundado, que sirva de plataforma a inserção destes Estados no mercado global em condições mais favoráveis (Diz e Luquini, 2011;Kegel e Amal, 2013). Mais recentemente em 2012, foi criada a Aliança do Pacífico, "composta por Colômbia, Peru, Chile e México, que aglomera países com padrões de inserção internacional muito próximos, pautados pela liberalização comercial e a assinatura de tratados de livre-comércio com países desenvolvidos e em desenvolvimento" (Bressan e Luciano, 2018: 74).…”
