“…This finding is not altogether unexpected, given that the appearance of dnDSA has been seen in other scenarios where lowered immunosuppression is used, such as in cases of medication non-adherence (18,21) or physician-directed immunosuppression minimization (14,(22)(23)(24). Furthermore, we also found that immunosuppression reduction, in this largely African-American cohort, led to a higher rate of acute rejection after BKPyV viremia than seen before (10,25).…”

“…We also found African American recipient race to be associated with a higher rate BKVN without an increased risk for viruria and viremia. A recent prospective study found that African American race protected against the development of BK viruria and viremia, therefore, relationship between race and BKV disease is an important element to be included in future research (17). Further, although HLA mismatch was significant in our univariate analysis, it did not remain so after controlling for other factors, including acute rejection.…”

“…The BKV-specific probe, Penny3, was designed using the Primer Express software in our laboratory. On completion of the polymerase chain reaction, a standard curve was plotted, patient sample values were calculated, and BKV copy numbers per mL of patient plasma or urine were reported (25).…”
