Low temperature photoluminescence studies on semiorganic tris thiourea copper (I) chloride single crystal

Abstract: Semiorganic tris thiourea copper (I) chloride (TTCC) single crystals have been synthesized from copper (II) chloride via slow evaporation technique. The stoichiometry of the grown anhydrous complex crystal has been confirmed by elemental CHNS (C, H, N and S) and atomic absorption spectrophotometric (AAS) analysis. The crystal structure with space group has been confirmed by single crystal and powder X‐ray diffraction (XRD) studies. The FTIR study assigned the presence of functional groups and confirmed the co‐… Show more

“…The FTIR absorbance bands at 3463, 3263 and 3162 cm À1 correspond to -NH 2 functional groups, and the 1604 cm À1 band is attributed to Cu(I) complexes and also attributed to NH 2 deformation. 26 The peaks at 1388 and 563 cm À1 are due to asymmetric N-C-N stretching and N-C-N bending vibrational modes in the molecule, respectively. Two peaks at 1095 and 709 cm À1 are attributed to C]S stretching.…”

“…Two peaks at 1095 and 709 cm À1 are attributed to C]S stretching. 26 Based on the EDX and FTIR results, it is concluded that the precipitate is composed of a Cu + and thiourea coordination compound. These results indicate that the coordination compound of Cu + and thiourea solution is easy to crystallize.…”

“…† The stretching frequencies observed were between 3175 and 3182 cm À1 for N-H, 1287 cm À1 and 825 cm À1 for C]S stretch, and some additional frequencies for the conjugation and aromatic systems, which were in good agreement with the literature. 40 The oxidised form contained an additional O-H stretch at 3375 cm À1 whereas C]S stretching was not found, clearly indicating the loss of sulphur group with nucleophilic OH À . 41 The FTIR results are in good agreement with the abovedisplayed HRMS spectra, which conrmed the oxidation of ETO to ETO-O ( Fig.…”

“…Recently, materials with potential application in second harmonic generation (SHG) and electro‐optic modulation have attracted much attention, therefore, semiorganic materials, as a novel material, which combines properties of both organic crystals (high optical nonlinearity and chemical flexibility) and inorganic crystals (high mechanical strength, thermal stability and good transmittance), have aroused more and more concern. Zinc tris (thiourea) sulphate (ZTS) crystal is such a desirable semiorganic material which exhibits crystalline perfection, good optical homogeneity and low angular sensitivity, hence, proves useful for SHG . Its SHG efficiency is 1.2 times as that of potassium dihydrogen phosphate (KDP) crystal which is the sole available material for laser fusion and due to its high damage threshold, birefringence values and wider transparency, ZTS crystal can be used as better alternative for the frequency doubling and laser fusion experiments .…”

“…Previous researches of ZTS were mainly focused on the effect of additives and optical detection of grown crystals , but crystal growth is indeed a complicated process which is related to the surface morphology, growth mechanisms, formation of defects, etc. Following the demonstration of AFM as a useful tool for investigating in situ crystal growth, the growth mechanisms of inorganic crystals and organic crystals have become understandable at the atomic level.…”
