Low temperature alpha particle irradiation of a STAR1000 CMOS APS

Abstract: A STARIOOO CMOS active pixel sensor was irradiated with alpha particles at -130°C and dark current measurements were made at tern peratures up to 25°C. Approximately 90% of dark current spikes were seen to anneal near room tern perature. This im plies that room tern perature irradiations will not give a good estimate of on-orbit effects for cooled applications.

“…The optics will be a reflecting telescope involving a primary mirror and a secondary convex mirror. The focal length is 3 m. The baseline sensor is a CMOS Star1000 1024 x 1024 array sensor (pixel size 15 µm), which is known to be radiation-resistant, and for which much heritage is available (Hopkinson and Mohammadzadeh, 2008;Defise et al, 2004). Optionally, a motorized filter wheel with 12 filter positions could be mounted in front of the entrance optics to allow for colour and multispectral observations of distant targets in the Neptunian system.…”
