Overdrive technique for liquid crystal display (LCD) can improve the display quality of moving objects by applying a pre-measured overdrived voltage for the liquid crystal cell. Generally, interpolation is further adopted to reduce the size of pre-measured overdrive lookup table (LUT) so as to save area and power. However, using multiplier to accurately fit a linear result (by conventional bilinear interpolation), is inefficiency for a non-linear overdrive LUT. We therefore propose a simplifiedbilinear interpolation algorithm with only addition and shifting operations. An interpolation unit of overdrive technique using the proposed interpolation can reduce 71% and 29% area and power consumption, as compared with conventional bilinear interpolation-based interpolation unit.
