Low-Insertion Loss Pin Diode Switches Using Impedance-Transformation Networks

Abstract: Abstract-Two SPDT switches that have low insertion loss with impedance-transformation networks are presented. The proposed SPDT switches are comprised of two shunt PIN s and two quarterwavelength microstrip lines together with impedance transformation networks, which canceled the capacitance effect at off-state and the inductance effect at on-state simultaneously. The simulated insertion loss performance is less than 0.3 dB and the fabricated ones exhibit on-state low insertion loss of 0.5 dB within the range … Show more

“…In fact, the transceiver of Fig. 7 employs the same space-time-coded transmission schemes as the LTE-A standard, but it requires a large number of TA elements and a fast RF switching mechanism, which are affordable requirements in the context of millimeter-wave communications [46], [47] (see Section VI-D for further details), and with the aid of currently-available RF technology [58]- [61].…”

“…A so small loading capacitance is an advantage of our structure. Using available switches based on pindiodes, one may easily obtain the loading capacitance of this magnitude in the ON state and zero capacitance in the OFF state, whereas the parasitic losses and inductances will be negligibly small [58].…”

“…In the meantime, the receive beam indices are processed in the digital baseband in order to extract the transmitted log2(M) control information bits. From a practical point of view, RF switches capable of operating at nanosecond or even sub-nanosecond speeds are commercially feasible, [38] and [39], and can be used directly in the BIM systems.…”
