Low cost transparent radio-over-fibre system for UWB based home network

Abstract-Home area networks will have to deal with the future multigigabit wireless systems that are emerging or are under development. These millimeter-wave radio systems achieve data rates up to several Gb/s per channel, but over short distance. So, to expand the radio coverage, we propose to introduce a radio-overfiber (RoF) infrastructure at home. This paper presents a complete study of a RoF system: the 60 GHz radio coverage is extended using a RoF link working at intermediate frequency with two hops in the air. An experimental setup of such an infrastructure has been realized and characterized. A low-cost solution, working at 850 nm, was chosen using multimode fiber and off-the-shelf millimeter-wave and photonic components. Finally, a real-time transmission between two commercial WirelessHD devices working at 3 Gb/s has been carried out.Index Terms-Home area network (HAN), IEEE 802.15.3c, IEEE 802.11ad, optical architecture, optical transducers, radio over fiber (RoF), WirelessHD.

With the optical fiber communication and wireless communication technology advantage, Radio-on-Fiber (RoF) technology is a good way to solve the problems of bandwidth flexibility security and the electromagnetic interference, and its related technologies have attracted wide attention. With the construction of the Smart Grid, the bandwidth, stability and access reliability were demanded increasingly. According to the power system communication status and characteristics, transplant the RoF technology reasonably; combine with the advantages of fiber and wireless, will get the broadband and flexible information access, while reducing costs. The structure and application of hybrid RoF broadband access technology in the power system were discussed, and the corresponding performance and function were tested, which prove the power RoF technology has wide application.

In this paper a static large-signal model of SiGe/Si double Heterojunction Phototransistor (HPT) based on Ebers-Moll BJT model, is presented, analyzed, and developed for circuits design and simulations. The modeled HPT has been designed and realized in HBT technology from Telefunken Semiconductors foundry. Our model includes many high-order effects to achieve accuracy for most physical phenomena like the avalanche (breakdown characteristics), Webster, Charge storage, Self-heating and Early effects. The validity and the accuracy of the model are assessed by comparing the simulations with the DC measurements which are Gummel plots and Ic-Vce characteristics. A symbolically defined device (SDD) nonlinear flexible model has been implemented in Agilent Advanced Design System (ADS) software, which main parameters are derived directly from the measurements. And it's designed to predict accurately the DC characteristics over a wide range of operating conditions (biases).
