“…There is a body of evidence suggesting that older people can benefit from psychological therapy (Canuto et al, 2008;Laidlaw et al, 2008;Pinquart, Duberstein, & Lyness, 2007;Scogin et al, 2005). However, most of the studies included only independent, community dwelling, younger participants (aged 60-75 years) who had no hearing or sight problems, few comorbid medical conditions, and who were receiving individual rather than group therapy (Pinquart et al, 2007;Scogin et al, 2005).…”

The treatment of geriatric bipolar depression has been a neglected area of research; therefore, recommendations relating to treatment during this phase of illness are restricted to a small number of open trials with limited sample size.…”

“…Studies examining functions provided by adult mental health day-hospitals revealed a range of interventions such as social support and rehabilitation; short-term acute symptom relief; crisis interventions, psychotherapy, post-hospital care and long-term rehabilitation (Kallert et al 2004a;Seidler et al 2006). Others remind us that day-hospitals are viewed as cost effective alternatives to hospitalisation and outpatient care (Kallert et al 2004b;Canuto et al 2008).…”
