Longevity and subject‐reported satisfaction after minimally invasive jawline contouring

Abstract: Background: Minimally invasive treatments as soft tissue filler injections can enhance the appearance of the jawline. This prospective, single-center study investigated aesthetic outcome, patient satisfaction, adverse events, and volume changes after jawline contouring using standardized reporting scales and objectifiable 3D surface analysis. Methods: A total of 30 patients (1 male and 29 females, mean age: 57.2 (±8.7) years) were investigated. Patients underwent jawline augmentation using a highly crosslinked … Show more

“…The 9-point Shape technique is used to masculinize a face, focusing on sharpening the angles in the lower face. Neurotoxins and fillers are common nonsurgical approaches to modifying the jawline 43–45 . Neurotoxins can influence bigonial width by causing masseter atrophy, a technique that is commonly used in facial contouring in the East Asian population 43 .…”

“…1 While a rejuvenated look of the face can lower the perceived age of its beholder and increase self-confidence, happiness, and satisfaction with the own look, signs, of aging of the hands might create a disbalance to the younger-looking face of the patient. [2][3][4][5][6][7][8] A plethora of signs of aging characterize the aged hand which include, but are not limited to, discoloration of the skin and atrophy of the subcutaneous fat, which causes increased visibility and prominence of the extensor tendons, veins, and metacarpophalangeal joints. 9,10 To enhance the texture and decrease hyperpigmentation and discoloration of the dorsum of the hand, resurfacing by energy-and light-based devices as lasers or injections of platelet rich plasma can be used.…”

“…1 The ease of the procedures, short downtime, and lower cost compared to surgical interventions, combined with efficient and relatively safe results can be considered as the main driving forces for the increase in number of performed procedures. [2][3][4] Recent trends have shifted from sole amelioration of folds to sculpting the face and enhancing facial features. [5][6][7] One of the main area of interest is enhancing the lateral view of patients by adding projection to the chin in order to harmonize the profile of the patient.…”

“…14 By injecting soft-tissue fillers along the jawline, a straight, sharp jawline can be restored and create a younger, fresher appearance of the patient. 2 However, to assess the severity of chin retrusion and jawline sagging, validated scales are needed to assess the baseline state and evaluate the outcome after a minimally invasive intervention. In the literature, only two published scales are available for validated assessment of chin retrusion while furthermore only one published and validated scale for assessment of the jawline is available to the knowledge of the authors.…”
