Long-term study (2005–2010) on the vaccination with BoHV-1 glycoprotein E-deleted marker vaccine in selected two dairy herds in Turkey

Abstract: A follow-up study from 2005 to 2010 was carried out in two herds where eradication programme for the bovine herpes virus-1 (BoHV-1) infection depends on the vaccination with inactivated glycoprotein E-deleted vaccine that was started in 2001 following the vaccination with inactivated conventional vaccine between 1999 and 2001. For serological screening, a total of 12,976 sera sampled over several sampling times approximately 6 months of interval during 5 years (2005-2010) were tested for glycoprotein E (gE)- a… Show more

“…The gE-deleted vaccine can be distinguished from wild virus infection or vaccine immunity by the antibodies produced after vaccination. The BHV-1 gE-deleted vaccine is the most widely used labeled vaccine, using serum collected at approximately 6-month intervals for 5 consecutive years, serologically screened for gE-specific antibodies by ELISA to eradicate BHV-1 infection ( Tignon et al, 2017 ; Alkan et al, 2018 ; Petrini et al, 2019 ). The gE CTD protein can be used as an indicator antibody and coating antigen for the gE CTD-specific blocking ELISA test to distinguish between BHV-1 wild strains or gE CTD deletion strain-infected calves ( Chowdhury, 2016 ).…”

“…In Turkey, numerous studies have investigated BoHV-1 and BVDV as aetiological agents of fertility problems, such as abortion, and have conducted serological screening of antibodies against these agents (Alkan & Burgu 1993;Alkan et al 2005Alkan et al , 2009Alkan et al , 2018Bilge-Dagalp et al 2008;Oğuzoğlu et al 2012;Tan et al 2006). There have also been virological and serological studies on BoHV-4 infection.…”
