Long Term Evolution-Wireless Local Area Network Aggregation Flow Control

Abstract: Long term evolution-wireless local area network (LTE-WLAN) aggregation (LWA) has recently emerged as a promising third generation partnership project (3GPP) Release 13 technology to efficiently aggregate LTE and WLAN at the packet data convergence protocol layer, allowing uplink traffic to be carried on LTE and downlink on both LTE and WLAN. This removes all the contention asymmetry problems of WLAN and allows an optimum usage of both licensed and unlicensed band for downlink. In this paper, we present a new f… Show more

“…Further, LTE-U based on 3GPP Release 10 technology and first defined in Non-Listen Before Talk (NLBT) regions [18], and LAA in Listen Before Talk (LBT) regions also ratified by 3GPP [29] have been comprehensively studied in [30]- [32]. Finally, a substantial effort has been devoted in [33] and [34] to evaluating LTE-WLAN Aggregation (LWA) [35], which originates from LTE Dual Connectivity (DC) in 3GPP Release 12, as well as a spectrum sharing framework named Licensed Shared Access (LSA) in Europe and its alternative solution known as Spectrum Access Systems (SAS) in the US.…”

“…Moreover, each Regarding LWA, there has not been much research. However, some of the studies relate to TCP delay minimization [21] and traffic steering [22]. Some papers worked on maximizing LWA network throughput based on mathematical optimization [23], which is NP hard, in general.…”
