An Admission Control Mechanism for 5G LWA

Abstract: Abstract:To alleviate the spectrum scarcity problem in fifth-generation (5G) networks, traditional mobile data offloading schemes from long term evolution (LTE) to wireless local area networks (WLANs) have been revised by the third-generation partnership project (3GPP) in release 13, which is known as LTE-WLAN aggregation (LWA). With LWA, user equipment units (UEs) supporting both LTE and WLAN can utilize both LTE and WLAN links simultaneously. Thus, UEs under the coverage of an LWA network will be surrounded … Show more

“…The 5G and beyond technology in next-generationneration vehicular communication is envisaged to provide higher data rate, higher capacity, enhanced QoE, lower operating cost, lower delay, persistent service delivery, massive vehicular node connectivity, and security [77,78]. The evolution of C-V2X towards 5G NR and its implementation in V2X technology was discussed in Section 3.…”

“…These equations are addressed in some analytical models [32], [40]- [42]. Let m refer to the transmission probability of AC class m inside the station, which expressed in (11), as shown at the bottom of this page, [40]; where β m is the probability that backoff counter can be decreased by one for access category m, C m is the collision probability of access category m for a station, r m is the retransmissions limit for access category m, D m is the maximum times for doubling the CW after a collision for access category m. β m , and C m are defined as follows [40]- [42]:…”

“…To alleviate the spectrum scarcity problem in 5G networks, traditional mobile data offloading schemes from Long-Term Evolution (LTE) to WLANs have been revised by the third-Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) in release 13, which is known as LTE-WLAN Aggregation (LWA) [30]. Bajracharya et al [31] proposed a user-offloading algorithm for Evolved Node B (eNB) hardware that smartly allocates the deprived LTE User-Equipment (UEs) and assigns the LWA service to an optimal number of UEs without degrading the QoS for existing WLAN UEs. With LWA, UEs supporting both LTE and WLAN can utilize both LTE and WLAN links simultaneously.…”
