Long-Term Behavior of Three Different Grafts in Nasomaxillary Reconstruction of Binder Syndrome: An Analysis by Digitalized Measurements

Abstract: The L-shaped bone graft was favorably used in the depressed nasal dorsum, whereas frontal repositioning of the septum was optimal when the upper part of the nose was considered normal. The consistency in tip projection for all groups over time may be explained by the extensive surgical release of the soft tissues before grafting.

“…All of these techniques can lead to normalization of the facial features by increasing the angle of convexity of the face and nasal tip projection in patients with a hypoplastic nose. 12,13 Solitary median maxillary central incisor (SMMCI) is another common complication associated with CNPAS and HPE, but the dental needs are not difficult to manage. Solitary median maxillary central incisor is likely caused by an early defect in the frontonasal developmental field along with the other midline defects between 35 and 38 days of gestational age.…”

“…Some warping of cartilage can be anticipated when placed under pressure to stimulate soft tissue growth. 12,13 We therefore usually use osseous rib grafts. Columellar grafts have been observed to successfully correct a retruded columella and to improve the nasolabial angle.…”
