“…This argument gains impetus from the findings of a study where hospital-initiated KMC given during early infancy in preterm infants did not show any statistically significant differences in development scores at age of one year of age but was associated with reduced school absenteeism, hyperactivity, aggressiveness, externalization, and socio-deviant conduct of young adults after 20 years of enrollment [9,12]. Considering the evidence that adults aged 20 years born small for gestational age at term had lower performances in subtests assessing attention and executive functions with lower volumes in the associated brain structures, it would be an important step forward to follow this cohort of infants and evaluate the effect of ciKMC in their long-term attentional performance [37]. We, therefore, plan to assess cognitive, higher executive functioning and early academic skills using validated tools with reliable psychometric properties in children from the primary cohort at ages 6-7 years.…”
