Long Non-Coding RNAs in Multiple Myeloma

Abstract: Multiple myeloma (MM) is the second most common hematooncological disease of malignant plasma cells in the bone marrow. While new treatment brought unprecedented increase of survival of patients, MM pathogenesis is yet to be clarified. Increasing evidence of expression of long non-coding RNA molecules (lncRNA) linked to development and progression of many tumors suggested their important role in tumorigenesis. To date, over 15,000 lncRNA molecules characterized by diversity of function and specificity of cell … Show more

“…The role of lncRNAs in MM has drawn increasing attention from researchers. The classic lncRNA molecules MALAT1 , MEG3 , and H19 are still heavily researched in MM [33-35]. In addition, some new lncRNAs are gradually being discovered.…”

“…LncRNAs are deregulated in many human cancers and are associated with disease progression [ 9 , 10 , 11 ]. Several studies, including ours, have shed light on the role of lncRNAs in MM progression [ 12 , 13 , 14 ].…”

“…Former works disclosed that lncRNA OIP5-AS1 was highly enriched in lung cancer [19], gastric cancer [20] and bladder cancer [21], performing as oncogene and predicting poor prognosis of cancer patients; and was downregulated in in basal-like tumors [22], cervical cancer [23] and MM [24], suggesting the dual functions of lncRNA OIP5-AS1 in human malignancies, which might be related to different tumor microenvironment. Here, we observed the downregulation of OIP5-AS1 in the bone marrows of MM patients.…”
