High Expression Levels of Long Noncoding RNA Small Nucleolar RNA Host Gene 18 and Semaphorin 5A Indicate Poor Prognosis in Multiple Myeloma

Abstract: Background: The aim of this study was to detect the expression of long noncoding RNA small nucleolar RNA host gene 18 (SNHG18) andsemaphorin 5A (SEMA5A) genes in multiple myeloma (MM) patients and to explore the correlation of the expression of these genes with the clinical characteristics and prognosis of MM patients. Methods: Forty-seven newly diagnosed MM, 18 complete remission MM, 13 refractory/relapse MM, and 22 iron deficiency anemia (serving as control) samples were extracted at the Department of Hemato… Show more

“… 14 , 22 Similarly, SNHG18 was not only associated with the severity and progression of osteosarcoma, but it was also able to predict the poor prognosis of patients. 13 Herein, the significant downregulation of SNHG18 was observed in HBV-associated HCC, which is consistent with the previous assessment of SNHG18 expression in HCC. 12 The reduced expression of SNHG18 showed a close relationship with the high AFP level and advanced TNM stage of patients, which are an indicator of the malignant progression of HCC, indicating the potential involvement of HBV-associated HCC of SNHG18.…”

“… 12 The involvement of SNHG18 has been reported in various malignant tumors, such as glioma and myeloma. 13 , 14 However, the specific function of SNHG18 in HBV-associated HCC and whether it mediated the antitumor effect of OA remains unclear.…”

“…BCAR4 overexpression can promote tumor growth by modulating miR-2276/MMP7 axis [ 28 ]. Reportedly, SNHG18 is highly expressed in multiple myeloma (MM), which is closely related to Mayo Clinic Risk Stratification for MM and the short overall survival time [ 29 ]. Conversely, in liver cancer, SNHG18 is considered to be a tumor suppressor [ 30 ].…”

“…The current study then assessed RAD51B-AS1 expression in 49 serous ovarian carcinoma tissues and 9 benign tumors, revealing a remarkably increase in the expression of RAD51B-AS1 in cancer samples (Figure 1F). Low SNHG18 acts as a tumor suppressor and a diagnostic indicator in hepatocellular Carcinoma [15] SNHG18 promotes glioma cell motility via disruption of α-Enolase nucleocytoplasmic transport [16] SNHG18 indicates poor prognosis in Multiple Myeloma [17] SNHG18 drives the growth and metastasis of non-small cell lung cancer [18] ENST00000568391. High SALRNA1:A senescence-associated lncRNA can delay senescence [19] a new therapeutic target to limit the irreversible apoptosis of lung epithelial cells in COPD patients [20] .…”
