Long non-coding RNA RMST serves as a diagnostic biomarker in patients with carotid artery stenosis and predicts the occurrence of cerebral ischemic event: A retrospective study

Abstract: Objectives The purpose of this retrospective study is to explore the diagnostic and prognostic roles of serum RMST in carotid artery stenosis (CAS). Methods Serum levels of RMST were detected in CAS patients, and the relationship between degree of carotid stenosis and RMST levels was analyzed. The ROC curve was drawn to evaluate RMST value in predicting the risk of CAS. Then, all CAS patients received a 5-year follow-up. K-M curve was used to analyze the significance of RMST on prognosis of CAS patients. Multi… Show more

“…21 Upregulated lncRNA rhabdomyosarcoma 2-associated transcript (RMST) was identified as a biomarker for CAS that screened the pathogen of CAS and predicts the occurrence of cerebral ischemic events. 22 In this study, the downregulation of PCA3 was observed in CAS patients' serum, which could discriminate CAS patients sensitively and specifically, indicating its diagnostic potential. In CAS patients with unstable plaque, the expression of PCA3 was much lower than that in the stable plaques, which is consistent with their significant association.…”

“…LncRNA RhabdoMyoSarcoma 2-associated Transcript (RMST) is a highly expressed RNA in CAS patients and it has accuracy in distinguishing CAS patients. 9 SNHG14 is another lncRNA researched in restenosis, which can regulate cell proliferation through binding miR-145. 10 Abnormality of lncRNA THRIL expression is observed in several disorders that are associated with CAS.…”

“…[20][21][22] RMST is highly expressed in CAS patients and the ROC curve indicates that it is a useful indicator in screening CAS patients. 9 Considering the overexpression of THRIL in patients with ACS, the predictive possibility was estimated. THRIL has a high area under the curve (AUC) value of ROC curve, corroborating that THRIL could serve as a predictor for differentiating CAS patients.…”
