Long non-coding RNA AGER-1 inhibits colorectal cancer progression through sponging miR-182

Abstract: Objective: Abundant evidence has illustrated that long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) plays a vital role in the regulation of tumor development and progression. Ectopic expression of a novel lncRNA, termed lnc-AGER-1, has been discovered in cancers, and this lncRNA was reported to exert an anti-tumor effect. However, its biological mechanism remains unelucidated in colorectal cancer. Methods: A total of 159 paired colorectal cancer specimens and adjacent tissues was applied to detect the expression of lnc-AGER-1 by t… Show more

“…Studies on the molecular mechanism of CRC have always attracted the attention of scientists. Previous studies have found that the occurrence and development of CRC may be closely related to the molecular regulation of noncoding RNA (Gu et al, 2020; Lin et al, 2020; W. Peng et al, 2020; Zhang et al, 2020). Noncoding RNAs are not involved in the expression of proteins in cells, but they can affect the regulation of proteins at multiple levels and are widely involved in molecular signaling pathways in cells.…”

“…Accumulating researches have unmasked the wide participation of lncRNAs in the regulation of CRC cell biological behaviors and tumor progression [ 18 , 28 ]. Specifically, AGER-1 exerts inhibitory influences on CRC progression via sponging miR-182 [ 29 ] while SNHG10 contributes to exacerbated malignant behaviors of CRC cells via targeting miR-3690 [ 30 ]. In this study, we aimed to fathom out the functional role of HCG11 in the regulation of CRC cell malignant behaviors.…”

“…The ceRNA hypothesis was proposed to describe the function of many lncRNAs as ceRNA to protect the genuine targets of miRNAs from silencing or translational suppression 26 . LncRNA-miRNA-mRNA axis has been reported to play important roles in CRC 27 - 29 . Although the expression and function of DSCAM-AS1 have been reported in previous studies in several tumors, the potential mechanisms involved have not been clarified.…”
