Location tracking using LoRa

Abstract: <span>Local area network (LAN) as Bluetooth, WiFi and ZigBee are well established technology. The biggest problem with many LAN is the battery consumption and short ranges link budgets. LoRa is a new, private, unlicensed and spread spectrum modulation technique which allows sending low rates at extremely long ranges with minimal power consumption. More importantly, there is no access fee associated with this type of wireless technology. The main idea behind this work is to conduct performance and capabil… Show more

“…The development of a location monitoring system using LoRa and global positioning system (GPS) module was also carried out in [14], along with the analysis of the system's detectable range of data, battery consumption, and received signal strength indicator (RSSI). The deployment experiment showed that the system was able to detect the transmitted data within a distance of 290 meter.…”

“…The main objective of this research is to identify the optimum module that can be used in tracking system projects in terms of accuracy of altitude and speed. Based on Table 1, Hashim et al, [10] utilized Lora GPS for their system, while the other researchers have been applying GPS Neo 6m. Systems in Zohari and Mohd [7], and Hashim et al, [10] all use Arduino as their microcontroller whereas system for Pranay et al, [9] employs two microcontrollers, Arduino and NodeMCU.…”

“…As the end gadgets are energy-constrained, the IoT requires minimal energy usage and far-reaching transmission-based wireless communication methods [5]. The requirements of the IoT are being met by long range (LoRa) which stands for long range that provide reliable and improved connectivity for sending information from field to a remote server without paying any fees [6], [7]. The IoT will be able to connect to a huge number of end nodes spread across a vast geographic area with LoRa technology, an advanced agriculture support tool [8].…”
