Localization of four new markers to pig chromosomes 1, 6, and 14 by radioactive in situ hybridization

Abstract: The genes coding for glucose regulated protein, 78kDal (GRP78), hormone-sensitive lipase (LIPE), plasminogen activator or urokinase (PLAU), and D-amino acid oxidase (DAO) were localized in the pig by radioactive in situ hybridization. GRP78 was mapped to 1q2.10→q2.13 and LIPE was localized to chromosome 6cen→q12. The genes for PLAU and DAO were both assigned to chromosome 14, in the region q2.4→q2.6 and q2.1→q2.3, respectively. The results are compared to mapping data in other mammalian species.

“…Three other genes in this interval have previously been mapped in the pig. Insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF1) and tumor rejection antigen 1 (TRA1) both map to SSC5 (Archibald et al, 1995;Hawken et al, 1999;Lahbib-Mansais et al, 2000), while d-amino acid oxidase (DAO) maps to SSC14 (Mellink et al, 1993;Lahbib-Mansais et al, 2000). Our results suggest that STAB2 and SART3 flank the HSA12 breakpoint and the distance between these genes in the human genome is predicted to be less than 5 Mbp (UCSC April 2003 assembly and NCBI Build 33; Table 2).…”

“…Furthermore, by referring to the range numbers of its neighbor genes and the known exact locations of DAO1 and GGT1 demonstrated by previous studies (Mellink et al, 1993;Zambonelli et al, 1998), porcine SELM was computationally mapped to 14q21. These porcine genes were organized similarly to their homologues at human 22q12.2 (Table 1).…”

“…FABP3 gene has been shown to be associated with IMF content (Lee et al 2010). Hormone-sensitive lipase gene (LIPE), which maps to chromosome 6 (Mellink et al 1993), has been involved in the free fatty acids mobilization (Miyoshi et al 2008;Zechner et al 2009). Lipoprotein lipase gene (LPL) maps to chromosome 14 (Gu et al 1992) and is responsible for lipid deposition and mobilization (Luo et al 2009).…”
