Introduction:The highest caries prevalence occurs in the age group 10-14 which is the age of school children. Increased teacher knowledge about dental and oral health will determine students in behaving to maintain oral health.Objective: This study aimed to determine the level of education towards the level of knowledge of dental and oral health and School's Dental Education Program for kindergarten and elementary school teachers. Method:This was an observational descriptive study with cross sectional approach. The population of this study were kindergarten and elementary school teachers in Public Health Center working area in Surabaya with a total sample size of 76 respondents. Results:Chi-Square analysis of education level did not correlate with the level of dental and oral health knowledge and School's Dental Education Program (ρ = 0.951 and ρ = 0.098). Conclusion:There was no relationship between the level of education on the level of knowledge of dental and oral health and School's Dental Education Programfor kindergarten and elementary school teachers.

Background: Caries is a common dental and oral health problem. Caries is one of the serious health problems for schoolchildren, especially elementary school children. Primary school-age children are susceptible to dental and oral healthproblems due to lack of knowledge, and they are still unable to maintain oral and dental health. The level of teacher’sknowledge about dental and oral health influences students’ attitudes and behavior regarding dental and oral health.Purpose: To identify the effect of identification and management of dental health problems empowerment program onkindergarten and elementary school teachers’ knowledge in Keputih public health center (Puskesmas). Methods: Thiswas an analytic observational study with a cross-sectional approach. The population was a kindergarten and elementaryteachers in Keputih. Results: The result showed an increase in teachers’ knowledge from 50% to 72.5% after theintervention. Conclusions: The program concluded that there was an increase in teachers’ knowledge levels regardingthe identification and management of resolving dental health problems.

Background: A preliminary epidemiological study of three kindergartens in Embong Kaliasin Village under KetabangPublic Health Center, Surabaya coverage revealed that 63% of the kindergarteners have dental caries. The study alsofound that only 8% of them received dental treatment. The remaining 92% of kindergarteners never had dental treatmentbecause uncovered health insurance, unavailability of parents during working days and hours, mother’s education level,mother’s medical history, paternal support in dental and oral health care. Promotive, preventive, and referral efforts canbe achieved by empowering health cadres. The empowerment program addressed maternal reluctance in participating“KESGILUT” program by providing the “AWAS” educational book. Purpose: We expect that the program could increasemothers’ knowledge levels on dental and oral health as well as encourage them to participate in child dental and oralhealth care. Methods: The health education method was parental mentoring with a group approach. The parents ofManguni kindergarteners receiving the “AWAS” educational book as a group. The media of the program was the “AWAS”educational book. It covered information about dental and oral health, including primary and secondary dentition, stagesof dental caries, correct tooth brushing, nutritious food for teeth, and preventing dental caries. The evaluation method ofthis program is using pre-post test analysis. Results: There is an increasement in post test score (68%) to post-test score(83%). Conclusion: This program is effective to increase mother’s knowledge about dental and oral health.
