“…The absence of recognizable fossils means that it is not possible to determine the age of the Wajid Sandstone. Therefore, Cambro-Ordovician age assigned during the recent studies of Dabbagh and Rogers (1983); Moshrif and El-Hitt (1989) is accepted.…”

“…The thickness of the cycles ranges from 4 to 10 m. Each cycle shows vertical variation in the primary sedimentary structures, with trough cross-bedded, pebbly coarse-grained sandstones at the base, followed upwards by planar cross-bedded, medium-grained sandstones, and terminated by flat-bedded to laminated finegrained sandstones and siltstones in the upper part of the cycle. Fining-upward cycles and the vertical variation in the sedimentary structures has been interpreted as indicating deposition by a SW to N or NE-flowing river system (Dabbagh and Rogers, 1983;Moshrif and El-Hitt, 1989). Neither body nor trace fossils have been found in the studied rocks.…”

“…Al-Sulayyil quadrangle is covering a surface area of 8902 Km 2 of the southern Najd province of Saudi Arabia. The general geology of the area and the tectonic setting is studied by many authors (Geukens 1966;Dabbagh and Rogers 1983;Kellog et al 1986;McClure et al 1988; Moshrif and El-Hiti 1989;Vaslet 1990;Stump and Van der Eem 1994;Sharland et al 2001;Windley et al 2006). The stratigraphic column of the Sulayyil quadrangle area is exhibited in Fig.…”

“…These sandstones are possibly partly or wholly correlative to the Upper Ordovician sediments described by Kumpulainen et al (2006) from Eritrea and/or to the Wajid Sandstone in Saudi Arabia (e.g. Moshrif and El-Hiti, 1989;Hussain et al, 2004;Wanas and Abdel-Maguid, 2006).…”
