Literature review of Notch melanoma receptors

Abstract: Despite the immunotherapeutics and target therapy agents, the survival of patients with advanced melanoma is still low. Notch signaling is able to regulate many aspects of melanomagenesis. Comparative analyses of common melanocytic nevi, dysplastic nevi and melanomas demonstrated increased expression of Notch1, Notch2 and their ligands, indicating that a positive regulation of these components may be related to the progression of melanoma. Some strategies such as gamma-secretase inhibitors (GSI) have been expl… Show more

“…It's also involved in neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer's and developmental disorders. Even though it is primarily oncogenic, Notch has already been identified as a tumor suppressor 4,5,6 . Elevated levels of Notch1-4 expression have already been associated with metastatic and primary melanoma strains, whereas, in normal melanocytes and nevi, Notch levels are low or undetectable 4,7,8 , demonstrating the importance of this pathway in the development of this type of tumor.…”
