“…Based on these findings, it was suggested to sieve samples with the 75‐µm sieve rather than the 425‐µm sieve. Conversely, another study found that the correlations between Atterberg limits and clay and organic carbon content were stronger for the 425‐µm‐sieved samples than the correlations with the 2‐mm‐sieved samples (Stanchi, Catoni, D'Amico, Falsone, & Bonifacio, ).…”

“…There were however large discrepancies between the two measures for samples with LL > 36% due to the limits of an agreement which were more than 4%. Also, Stanchi et al (2017) by comparing the relationship between Atterberg limits (LL range from 42 to 58% and PL range from 31 to 61%) and clay fraction in different fraction size (425 µm and 2 mm) stated that the clay content has a strong effect on Atterberg limits in the 425 µm fraction and this relationship is more obvious in this size. Furthermore, Kayabali (2011) measured the Atterberg limits in different particle size (425 and 75 µm) showed that the sample passed through the sieve 75 µm had higher PL and LL compare to sample passed through the sieve 425 µm.…”

“…Contrary to those researchers, Keller and Dexter 17 reported a weak positive correlation between SOM and LL/PL, while there was no significant effect of SOM on PI for agricultural soils covering a wide range of soil types in many countries. Stanchi et al 37 found no correlation between LL, PI and the SOM content, while they observed a positive relationship between PL and SOM of clayey, organic C-rich mountain soils in the Ligurian Alps (NW-Italy).…”

“…Our previous research (e.g. Stanchi et al, 2017) detailed the main phases of water-soil particles interactions for increasing moisture contents in forest soils. The plastic limit is reached when soil shifts from the semi-solid to the plastic state, a condition met when water fills soil pores, excluding air.…”
